Cinematography

A cinematographer is one photographing with a motion picture camera. The title is generally equivalent to director of photography (DP), used to designate a chief over the camera and lighting crews working on a film, responsible for achieving artistic and technical decisions related to the image. The cinematographer typically selects the film stock, lens, filters, etc., to realize the scene in accordance with the intentions of the director. In Short the Cinematographer or the DP is responsible for the Visual content of any film.

Digital Cinematography

Introduction to moving images. good cinematography. camera movement. 5 C's of Cinematography.

Introduction to video camera and its various parts

Understanding Light

Using natural light. Need for artificial light. Types of light. Lighting up a scene- Intensity, quality and angle. Three point lighting, etc

Colour

Primary colour, Secondary colour, Tertiary colour. Relevance of colour.

Communication

With D.O.P. With other cinematography dept people. Production. prep list lighting req. role of an A.C. Maintaining continuity sheet. Stock management/writing labels, working as a team. Introduction to Film camera

Parts of Film Camera

Their purpose and it's contribution in forming an image. Complete film work flow. Types of film cameras, aspect ratio, formats (16, 35mm)

Stock, Colour Temperature, Lab Processing, Telecine, D.I, Latest Technology, (Super 35/16, 3 perf.)

Special Effects

Green Screen, Miniature, Double role (masking), etc

Knowing Other Departments

Production, Direction, Art Direction, Costume, Editing, Sound, etc.

Post Production

Role of D.O.P. Role of an Assistant, Present Day Projection and Distribution System.

Shooting an exercise

Shooting an exercise in collaboration with direction, acting and editing students


Course 6 Months 2 days a week 3 Hours a day
